How we Invest

  • Somali-owned businesses

    All SomBAN companies have at least one Somali co-founder/owner. SomBAN business do not have to be in Somali-speaking parts of East Africa; they can operate anywhere in the world.

  • Equity Finance

    SomBAN only does equity investments. Companies pitch to the angel network with a pre-set valuation and a target fundraise. For example, a company may pitch the network for a $50K equity fundraise on a $250K pre-money company valuation.

  • Traction + Scaling Potential

    SomBAN invests in companies that have significant traction and potential to scale. Companies do not need to be profitable at the time of investment, but they do need to have impressive demonstrated progress in core areas of the business.

In order to pitch to the network, founders must commit to a high level of transparency before and after the investment. In return, SomBAN angels commit to complete confidentiality and non-competition. SomBAN exists to help founders.

SomBAN only makes minority investments in companies, and we do not take board seats. SomBAN founders get access to a network of entrepreneurs, executives, investors, and businesspeople who want to help them succeed, not interfere with their businesses.
